A perfect long-term solution:
Percutaneous Feeding Tubes
For every need we find the right solution
Nutrition can sometimes be difficult for a variety of reasons. This can be the case, for example, with neurologically caused swallowing disorders or passage disorders in oncological patients. Also, children or adults with impairments may not be able to get sufficient food intake.
Such underlying diseases give rise to the early assumption that enteral nutrition will be necessary for these patients over a longer period. If the nutritional support is foreseen to exceed 4 weeks the placement of a percutaneous feeding tube should be considered.

Placement and advantages of percutaneous tubes
Placement:
A percutaneous feeding tube is placed through the abdomen
directly into the stomach:
Endoscopically - Laparoscopically - Surgically
Why percutan?
- It is more convenient for the patient
- The nasopharyngeal cavity is free and no tube disturbs breathing.
- There is a better hygienic aftercare
- The percutaneous tube has a better fixation and therefore the risk of an accidental tube dislocation is lower
Variations of percutaneous tubes
A long-lasting team of experts from Fresenius Kabi are constantly developing and improving these tube range since almost 40 years. Percutaneous tubes can be differentiated in initial placement tubes and replacement tubes. Initial placement tubes must ensure a safe fixation of the stomach wall to the abdominal wall until a stoma is formed. They can be placed either endoscopically, laparoscopically or surgically. Replacement feeding tubes have usually a balloon as inner retention, which can be inflated or deflated for an easy exchange in a mature stoma tract.
